JFC penetrant (C8-C10 alcohol ethoxylate): what "JFC-5" means and how buyers qualify a supplier

Penetrant JFC (C8-C10 alcohol ethoxylate) nonionic surfactant
Penetrant JFC used as a wetting and penetration agent in textile and industrial systems

What "JFC" and "JFC-5" mean

JFC is the trade shorthand for a penetrant and wetting agent built on a C8-C10 fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether. "JFC-5" is a common grade designation buyers use in RFQs; the chemistry is the same nonionic alcohol ethoxylate, and the number tracks the average ethylene-oxide (EO) addition that sets cloud point and wetting speed. We publish the product as Penetrant JFC (C8-C10 Alcohol Ethoxylate).

See the product page: Penetrant JFC (C8-C10 Alcohol Ethoxylate).

Why it penetrates fast (the mechanism, in plain terms)

As a nonionic C8-C10 alcohol ethoxylate, JFC lowers surface tension and wets substrates quickly without the foam or ionic-interference issues of some anionics. Published figures: pH 5.0-7.0 at 1%, cloud point 40-50 degC at 1%, flash point above 100 degC. The cloud point is the temperature ceiling where it drops out of solution, so for baths above about 50 degC you would plan dilution or a different product. The APEO-free formulation matters where finished goods must meet APEO-restriction requirements. We do not assert a regulatory certificate - request the applicable documentation for your market.

Where buyers use JFC penetrant

Typical uses are textile desizing, scouring, bleaching and printing-bath penetration on cotton, polyester and blends, plus leather and paper process wetting. It is a process wetting agent, not an emulsifier - if the aim is foam control or emulsification you would look at a different member of the same sorbitan-ester family.

How to qualify a JFC-5 supplier (what to ask for)

Identity first: ask for the exact composition (C8-C10 fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether) and confirm APEO-free status for your market. Specification: request the TDS/MSDS with appearance, pH, cloud point and flash point. We offer a free 500-1000 g sample (freight to buyer, deductible from bulk) so your lab can confirm behaviour in your actual bath. Where your market requires it, arrange third-party testing such as SGS or Intertek; MOQ, price and lead time are quoted on request.

Note on CAS: the source data for this product carries a conflicting CAS reference (title shows 68439-50-9 against the stated C8-C10 composition), so we do not publish a CAS on the product page. Request written confirmation before you cite one - the CAS is pending client confirmation.

Bottom line for the RFQ

JFC / JFC-5 is a fast-wetting nonionic C8-C10 alcohol ethoxylate, APEO-free, used across textile, leather and paper wetting. Qualify it by identity plus TDS plus sample - not by trade name alone.

Product: Penetrant JFC - sister penetrants: Penetrant DE-2.

Frequently asked questions

Is JFC-5 the same as JFC penetrant?

Same chemistry - a C8-C10 fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether nonionic penetrant. "JFC-5" is a grade designation buyers use in RFQs; the product we publish is Penetrant JFC (C8-C10 Alcohol Ethoxylate). Confirm the exact EO level and specs from the TDS for your grade.

Is JFC penetrant APEO-free and what is its cloud point?

Published as APEO-free, with cloud point 40-50 degC at 1% solution, pH 5.0-7.0 at 1%, and flash point above 100 degC. Above about 50 degC plan dilution or a different product. We do not assert a regulatory certificate - request market-specific documentation.

What CAS does JFC penetrant have?

We do not publish a CAS for this product. The source records carry a conflicting CAS reference (68439-50-9, which actually corresponds to a C12-14 alcohol ethoxylate) against the stated C8-C10 composition, so the CAS is pending client confirmation. Request written confirmation before citing one.
