Why coatings and inks need surfactants

Coatings, paints and printing inks are complex dispersions — pigments, binders, water and additives that must stay uniform from manufacture to application. Surfactants control pigment wetting, levelling, foam and substrate wetting; getting them wrong shows up as craters, fish-eyes, poor gloss or unstable dispersion.

Our polyether and nonionic components are used where defoaming, levelling and wetting matter most — water-based systems where foam and surface tension are the main enemies of a clean film.

Random Polyether BPE-1600 is a random polyether (colorless liquid, Pt-Co <=20, acid value <=0.5 mgKOH/g, content >=99.0%, 1% pH 5.0-7.0) used in coatings and industrial cleaning as a defoaming, levelling and wetting component. Its balanced hydrophilic-lipophilic behaviour controls foam and improves substrate wetting and surface levelling.

Polyethylene Glycol 4000 (PEG-4000) is a high-molecular-weight PEG polymer (MW 3600-4400, hydroxyl value 26-32 mgKOH/g, 1% pH 5.0-7.0) supplied as a white flake (Pt-Co <=50) conforming to Q/320621HA024. It is water-soluble, inert and non-irritating, used as a binder, thickener, lubricant and solubiliser across pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food and industrial systems.
